Time Delay Switches

Time Delay Switches

Time Delay Switches St Mary's Church Hall, Dawlish Warren We were approached by one of our domestic customers who was responsible for looking after their local church hall.  Their concern was that certain lights within the building were being left on after private hires of the hall which may not be noticed for anywhere up to a week afterwards.  With the cost of electricity ever increasing, they asked us if we could retrofit some time delay switches so even if someone left a light on it would eventually turn itself off, saving electricity and crucially saving money! One particular aspect of the job was a little tricky though; some of these switches were pull cord switches and a time delayed pull switch is not something you can purchase off the shelf of a local wholesaler – come to mention it, most wholesalers just simply say they are not available.  So after contacting other electrical companies in order to obtain several quotes (as required by the church hall board), we were the only ones who had managed to source and could provide a suitable pull switch with time delay that could be used as a replacement. We installed 3 pull cord time delay switches in their washrooms, and 4 normal time delayed switches in a kitchen cupboard and some individual toilets. For the normal switches we used an electronic solution – a standard normal time delay switch works with a vacuum, and the light is on for the preset time.  An advantage of the electronic version is that you can set a delay time, but if you want to turn...

Fire Alarm Installation

Fire Alarm Installation

Fire Alarm Installation Barnstaple, Devon We were approached by one of our existing customers who was also a landlord of another property. As a result of an inspection of the property due to a new purchaser it was advised that the property be fitted with a Grade A LD2 system throughout the 3 flats, Grade D systems in each of the 3 flats and emergency lighting in the communal staircase and entrance hall. For those of you who may be wondering what on earth those numbers and letters mean: Grade A LD2 – Grade A – A fire detection & alarm system which incorporates control & indicating equipment conforming to BS EN 54-2 and power supply equipment conforming to BS EN 54- 4, and which is designed & installed in accordance with sections 1 to 4 of BS 5839-1:2002 except certain clauses. LD2 – A system incorporating detectors in all circulation spaces that form part of the escape routes from the dwelling, and in all rooms and areas that present a high fire risk to occupants. Grade D – A system of one or more mains powered smoke alarms, each with an integral standby supply. (The system may, in addition, incorporate one or more mains-powered heat alarms, each with an integral standby supply) We provided which was accepted and we subsequently installed all 3 elements. As part of the installation we also had to provide a new consumer unit to supply the power to both the new systems. If you would like any fire detection equipment or emergency lighting, or have any queries about the different types of system available...
Computer Room

Computer Room

Computer Room Installation Bideford, North Devon A previous customer of ours is an IT teacher, and when he was asked by a nearby school if he knew anyone who could install a complete new computer room setup for the school he pointed them in our direction. The brief was pretty straightforward – Design and install a system which included both mains and data cabling into the room for which there would be 24 new PC’s installed for the use of the pupils. We installed a Dado Trunking system, which tidily routes all the relevant cabling around the room, and crucially keeps the data and the mains cabling separate from each other – a very important electrical requirement. Safety was of the highest priority regarding the electrical system – with young students using the computers it was high on the priority list. The circuits were all split up onto individual 30mA RCBO’s to give the greatest level of protection against electric shock. They also wanted to ability to be able to shut off all power to all the machines in the case of an emergency, and a key switch was provided for the teacher to be able to do this. We also supplied and configured the PC’s, and connected them into the existing network. If you would like to install a new network system into your school, office or workplace please contact us on 01626 818280 or email info@matrixelectricalservices.co.uk The Finished Room Deadlock Key Individual RCBO’s First Fix First Fix First Fix Second Fix Second...
